MSAT’S AMAZING HOCKEY TOURS
Chapter 2 : The Monaco International Pee-Wee Tournament
It’s not a dream! We’re not talking about a remote town somewhere in Wisconsin. We’re talking about the wealthiest place in Europe where stars, Ferraris and 200-foot yacht are a part of the daily life. So, you ask, what does hockey have to do with a place like that? Well, the answer is very simple; you just got to see it for yourself. Get ready for a culture shock... and the experience of a lifetime.
Located a wrist shot away from the Mediterranean sea, some twenty kilometers, east of Nice, Monaco is not the first place that comes to mind when it comes to hockey destinations. Oh yeah? Think again. Not exactly a hockey hotbed, the French Riviera nevertheless hosts a much-enjoyed minor hockey tournament: The Monaco’s International pee-wee is entering its seventh year in 2011, and brings together teams from across Europe and America.
Most people know Monaco by reputation; a prestigious city with a mild climate. Tourists visit the attractions of the area such as the Casino de Monte-Carlo, the royal palace or the Oceanographic museum founded by Prince Albert I over a century ago. Monaco is home to the F1 Grand Prix and tennis. The small independent state is now a jewel worth visiting and there is no better time to enjoy the city then during the summer holidays, during the pee wee tournament, when tourists are gone and you have the place for yourself.
Try to imagine play outdoor hockey in the heart of this beautiful region, a few minutes awa from the palace, almost in its backyard. It’s is pure magic. The tournament is organized by the President of the Monegasque Ice Sports Federation and every little detail is covered. Skating for the first time on the artificial rink, especially built for the occasion, is a special moment in itself. The presence of several international teams makes for an excellent level of play and provides a truly unique week of hockey that gives all teams lasting memories. The presence of his highness Prince Albert of Monaco during the activities surrounding the tournament adds to the prestige of the event.
Monte Carlo has its share of highly interesting tours that will help make the journey even more unforgettable for players and parents alike. There’s much more to Monte-Carlo than its casino. The breathtaking scenery, the sea, the narrow streets filled with history and the charms of neighboring Italy are all reasons for travelers to extend their stay or be part to enjoy the Riviera. Following the tournament, we organize friendly games in Torino and Val Pellice, Italy or in the Savoie area in Gap, Briançon, Albertville and scenic Alpe d”Huez.
